RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE WELL AT JORDAN’S FARM

THE WELL {AT JORDAN’S FARM}

In July we took a last-minute trip up to Maine to visit family for the July Fourth weekend. While there, we had dinner at The Well at Jordan’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The restaurant is located on an actual working farm and is extremely whimsical and enchanting.

At The Well, all of the produce, seafood, meat, and poultry is locally sourced and guaranteed fresh. Thus, the menu changes on a daily basis to reflect the freshest ingredients available that day. Jason Williams, the chef, spent several years working at the popular Back Bay Grill in Portland, Maine before opening The Well at Jordan’s Farm. Prior to that he had several stints at top restaurants in both California and Maui after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1998.

We arrived as the sun was setting and gathered around the fire pit as we waited for our gazebo to be ready. You dine in private, intimate gazebos with soft lighting and iPhone hookups that allow you to be your own DJ for the evening and choose the soundtrack for your meal. The sturdy wooden farm tables are adorned with simple floral arrangements picked right on the farm.

The Well is BYOB, so we came prepared with a few bottles of delicious Cloudline Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley.

We all ordered the five course chef’s tasting menu to truly get a sense of the local flavors and offerings.

First Course – Peeky Toe Crab and Sugar Snap Peas with Fresh Basil, Mint, and Chives

The Well Maine

Second Course – Pan Seared Hake with Lemon Butter Sauce, Roasted Carrots, and Mushrooms

The Well Maine

Third Course – Lamb and Ricotta Meatballs with a Tomato Puree on Ciabatta Toast with Fresh Basil

The Well Maine

Fourth Course – Pork Tenderloin with Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Swiss Chard

The Well Maine

Fifth Course – Homemade Doughnut with Macerated Strawberries and Whipped Creme

Each and every course was impeccable and delicious. Despite being a five course meal, we were not overly full by the end. The chef expertly used the fresh ingredients to keep the dishes light and satisfying without being overly heavy or filling. The combination of all of the courses truly showcased what the region has to offer and made for a meal to remember.

    On Google, this review says it’s from July of 2022 but The Well hasn’t been BYOB for a few years now. You have to purchase their alcohol. You may want to correct your information on your review.
